Welcome

In 2006, Washington University Investment Management Company (WUIMC) was established as an operating division within the legal framework of the University. A separate oversight board, the WUIMC Board of Directors, was also established to be responsible for investment policy and strategy as well as direction and evaluation of the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) and investment staff in the implementation of investment strategies.

WUIMC Board of Directors

At June 30, 2013, the WUIMC Board was comprised of eight members. WUIMC Board meetings are held four times per year. WUIMC Board terms extend for three years, with a maximum service of nine years.

WUIMC Staff

As of June 30, 2013 there was a total of fourteen staff, of which ten are investment professionals.

Authorities

The WUIMC Board has approval authority over the endowment’s investment policy, including investment return and risk objectives, the strategic asset allocation (targets and ranges) and new asset classes. In addition, the WUIMC Board evaluates the performance of the investment program and CIO.

The CIO and investment company staff make recommendations to the WUIMC Board on investment policy matters, including the strategic asset allocation. The CIO and staff have sole authority for determination and implementation of investment strategies, asset allocation within the ranges approved by the Board, selection and termination of investment managers, and all other day-to-day investment responsibilities.
